The General Chapter members decided to rest for a while and to leave house "Rogate" at 7:00 a. m., with the intention of spending Sunday on a pilgrimage: this time in Cascia (Perugia), to visit the sanctuary of St. Rita. By the way, our congregation has a parish/sanctuary of St. Rita in Maringa in Parana, Brazil. Though it continuesly raining the whole morning in the beautiful rocky cove of Roccaporena, Rita's birthplace, a few kilometers from Cascia, we still enjoy it anyway.
In Cascia we are welcomed by the Augustinian fathers and the Augustinian nuns (so was St. Rita) with extreme kindness and loveliness: we really feel at home. We quickly visit the oldest building, where St. Rita's cell is also located; but the precious building can only be seen from the outside, that is, from the cloister, because the recent Umbrian-Marchigian earthquakes have made this ancient sector unusable.
At 12 o'clock noon time, we celebrate the Sunday mass for the people and for us and it was presided by Fr. Giuseppe Viani, who thus celebrates his 50th Presbyterian ordination. How the years pass by! And how great is the Grace of the Lord! The holy mass succeeds beautifully, inside the solemn sacred space and with many beautiful stoles and green chausables offered in use to all of us, by our dear Agostinians.
After a tasting umbrian lunch, with the characteristic local cuisine (there were also the "chokes", but none of us, thanks to St. Rita, choked!), we had been left in the rain, even if a ray of sunshine had been seen during holy mass.
We were close to other sacred places: a few kilometers away, Norcia of St. Benedict and Santa Scolastica (from this perhaps the rain?), the abbey of Farfa and, across the border with Lazio, but near the village of Greccio (Rieti), where St. Francis organized the first crib of the rain?), the abbey of Farfa and, across the border with Lazio, near the village of Greccio (Rieti), where St. Francis organized the first crib of the rain History.
Then tomorrow will be an important day for us. Better go to bed early. Good night, greetings and best wishes to all! And thank you again for the prayers you do for us and for our beloved Congregation.
